In 1969, Willie Mitchell of Memphis Hi Records hired Al Green as the lead singer for his group and wanted Al Green to sign up with his record label. Willie seen a bright future for Al Green but encouraged Al to use the great, unique voice that God blessed him with instead of trying to imitate some of the singers that Al Green idolized such as Jackie Wilson and James Brown. Al Green ended up signing with Hi Records and created some of the greatest R&B love songs of all time.
