About Alicia Keys
At the age of 7, Alicia began to play the piano. Today, nine-time Grammy award winning Keys has shown her talents through the R&B world. Alicia Augello-Cook was born in January of 1980 in New York City. Alicia is Irish, Italian and African American. Her mother is of Irish and Italian blood and her father African. Her parents divorced when she was young. She was raised by her mother in the notorious “Hell’s Kitchen” area of Manhattan. By the age of 16 Alicia had graduated from High School and had been accepted as a student at Columbia University. Although, Alicia was thrilled with this acceptance, she chose to pursue her music career, which has been a whirlwind of excitement for this musical prodigy.
Alicia’s first albums were produced with Columbia and Arista records. Alicia was the first artist to sign with a company called J records. At the age of 14, Alicia wrote her first song and then turned around, wrote and produced one of Christina Aguilera’s songs, the specific song she wrote was named “Impossible” which was featured on Christina’s album Stripped.
Alicia has appeared on several television shows starting at the age of four where she appeared in the Cosby Show, since this television debut, she has also been seen in Charmed, The Nanny Diaries, American Dream and most recently “The Secret Life of Bees”. Today, she is continuing to tour and share her music around the country.
