About Allman Brothers
One of the seminal bands to come out of the south during the seventies, and often called the architects of Southern rock, The Allman Brothers Band is one of the best shows still on the road today. Their sound was heavily influenced by a wide range of genres including Country, Blues, Rock and even Jazz. Those who were lucky enough to get tickets to Allman Brothers shows were also privileged in seeing one of the premiere improvising bands of all time.
This was especially demonstrated on their live double album “At Fillmore East,” which is still one of the band’s best selling items and rated #49 on Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 Greatest Album of All Time. Recorded at the Fillmore East concert hall in New York City over two nights in March, 1971, “At Fillmore East” showcased the band’s raw talent, energy and eclectic taste. While not a traditionally radio friendly album, the track “Whipping Post” clocked in at an amazing 23 minutes in length, “At Fillmore East” proved to be the band’s breakthrough success.
Loss rocked the band in 1971 when Duane Allman, the bands legendary lead guitarist, died in an unfortunate motorcycle accident. Despite the loss of Duane, the band decided to continue in his memory and completed “Eat a Peach.” The album was a huge success and garnered a lot of airtime on radio stations. Almost one year after the untimely death of Duane, tragedy hit The Allman Brothers again when founding member and bassist Berry Oakley was also lost due to injuries received from a motorcycle accident.
Undeterred by the loss of family and friends, the Allman Brothers continued to play their music and spread their message of love, peace and fellowship. With the exception of a short time during the eighties, the band has toured the world with a majority of their original lineup intact and the Allman Brothers tour still to this day. With the addition of Gov’t Mule guitarist Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks to the band’s roster, it is arguably one of the best lineups of all time. So pick up some of our Allman Brother tickets and treat yourself to one of the best bands of all time.
