We grew up on Barry Manilow and his crooning of songs like Mandy and matured with him in his Copa, Copa, Cabana from his musical in 2004 about a New York City nightclub, which are like indelibly imprinted on our minds. The tall gentleman singer in the white tails was the velvet voice of the times. Barry Manilow was born Barry Pincus in Brooklyn, New York on June 17, 1943. His first success was an off Broadway musical score for The Drunkard which played for 8 years in New York.

A Juilliard School trained musician, his talents and musical training got him jobs in everything from commercials to working with Bette Midler. No one can ever forget Mandy which was his first signature hit as far as any fan is concerned. From his 1970's start with Bette Midler, Barry Manilow went on his own recording hits like, I Write the Song, and doing television specials that left his mark as a gentlemen singer.

His voice is cultured. It has nuances of alto and mellowed baritone if that can describe his voice which is almost like temptingly off key and definitely on key. Currently the voice that Frank Sinatra was jealous of will perform solo at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. The concert, "Manilow at the Hollywood Bowl" will star Barry Manilow himself and a 60 member band or orchestra.
