Eddie Money has one of those distinctive voices that you can't help but recognize when you hear it. Success found Edward Joseph Mahoney (Moneys' real name) in the 70's when Columbia Records came knocking with a recording contract for the former police officer.
During the late 70's and 80's Eddie cranked out 4 platinum albums and several top 40 singles. In 1977 his self titled 'Eddie Money', blew up the charts with smash hits 'Baby Hold On To Me' and the hard guitar licks of 'Two Tickets to Paradise'. 1978's 'Life for the Taking' produced the single 'Maybe I'm a Fool'. The album 'No Control' hit the top 20 in 1982 and yielded 3 hits, 'Shakin', I Think I'm In Love' and 'Take a Little Bit'. Eddie came back strong in 1986 with 'Can't Hold Back'. His biggest hit single ever was 'Take Me Home Tonight', with Ronnie Spector, it shot up the charts to number 4. 1988's 'Nothing to Lose' produced the top 10 hit 'Walk on Water'. During the time period from the late 80's to 2003, there were several compilation albums of previous hits and two live albums.
The rock-blues sound that is eminent on every Money recording is reminiscent of traditional Chicago styled-blues with hard driving sounds of the electric and bass guitar. Paired with Eddie's 'smoky vocals' give the band their distinct sound. The Eddie Money Band is Tommy Girvin, who has been with Eddie for 22 years. He is a musical director, lead guitarist and a songwriter in his own right. Lee Beverly toured with country music singer Sara Evans but traded it in to play bass in the Eddie Money Band. Glenn Symmonds met Eddie in 1974. He played and traveled with Eddie for a short time but soon went on to other ventures. Their paths crossed a few years later, and again in 1986 when Glenn became the drummer for the band. He's toured with Steve Perry, Elvin Bishop, and Etta James. Chris Grove completes the band on keyboards.
