About Eric Clapton
Eric Clapton has been performing in bands since 1963. He has been a guitarist with the Yardbirds, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Delaney and Bonnie and friends, Cream, Blind Faith, and Derek and the Dominos. When Eric Clapton stopped playing in other bands and embarked on his solo career he continued to surround himself with quality musicians in every sense of the word. Just a few of the talents who have played in Eric Clapton’s touring band are Chuck Leavell, Ray Cooper, Nathan East, and the late Billy Preston.
Some of Eric Clapton’s best known popular works are Layla, I shot the Sheriff, Tears in Heaven, and Wonderful Tonight. Of course, Clapton’s guitar style has been heavily influenced by blues. Recent releases include a CD entitled, “Me and Mr. Johnson”, which is a collection of blues tunes. The “Riding With The King” CD was a collaboration with B.B. King, one of Clapton’s influences.
In addition to Eric Clapton’s band resume, he has also collaborated with quite a number of diverse musicians. Eric Clapton’s guitar playing is featured on songs by George Harrison, and even Mary J. Blige. As far as duets, Clapton has recorded with Tracy Chapman, Cheryl Crow, and even Luciano Pavoratti. Eric Clapton is such an all around professional musician that he can blend with any of the talents that he happens to be surrounded with, no matter what the genre.
Eric Clapton is a part of rock and roll’s past, present, and future. These days, Clapton spends less time touring, but when he does, it’s something big that everyone wants to be a part of. Back in the 90’s, Eric Clapton did some dates with Elton John. In 2007, the Chicago Crossroads Guitar Festival stage hosted the likes of Robert Cray, Jeff Beck, Cheryl Crow, B.B. King, John Mayer, Vince Gill, Buddy Guy, Steve Winwood, Willie Nelson, and the list goes on. The guitar festival was held to benefit the Crossroads Centre, Clapton’s drug and alcohol treatment facility in Antigua.
