More About Flaming Lips

The Flaming Lips have come a long way. Starting off as post-punk band known for covering "The Batman Theme" in the early eighties in Oklahoma City, The Flaming Lips are now a multi-Grammy winning band that easily escapes any description. Know for their abstract and psychedelic music, The Flaming Lips have made a career of avoiding being unoriginal. They achieved notoriety with their song "She Don't Use Jelly," which was featured in TV shows such as "Beverly Hills 90210" and "Beavis and Butthead." The band, unhappy with most of the popular music coming out at the time, decided that they would forge creative and unique musical experiences. This led to 1997's "Zaireeka," which was not only unique in its music but in the way it was meant to be listened. It was actually a four CD set with each of the disc designed to be played at the same time from different CD players resulting in a surround sound experience. This project resulted in the band trying even more outlandish things such as their "Parking Lot Experiment" and "Boombox Experiments." The later was an event where forty volunteers were given modified boomboxes that played cassettes that were previously recorded by the band. Front-man Wayne Coyne would then conduct the group instructing them to change volume, pitch and other such settings on their boombox. After a strange series of events that almost left their drummer minus an arm and their bassist nearly killed in his car, the band went back to the studio to record 1999's "The Soft Bulletin" and 2002's "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots." The albums continued The Flaming Lip's journey to a more creative, unique and orchestrated sound. All the while, their stage shows only grew as their budget continued to increase. When The Flaming Lips go on tour, it's always an event that draws a large crowd. Creating an almost alien world for concert goers, they often have people dressed in costumes such as super heroes, skeletons and furry animals dance on the stage during the show. They also use lighting, bubbles, props and confetti to accent the production. One of the highlights of a Flaming Lips show as of late is when Wayne will actually enter a giant plastic bubble and walk over-top the crowd. Due to this great experience, tickets to Flaming Lips shows are always quick to sell out. So pick up Flaming Lips tickets now and get ready to have a great time at the concert.
