If there was anybody that personified the smooth soul with R&B during the late 90's and the 2000's, it was none other than Joe. The great thing is Joe is back on the road after releasing two albums over the last two years, with the latest 'Signature' being released in the Summer of '09.
Joe Lewis Thomas was born in Georgia but raised in Arkansas. He was the son of two preachers and his early influences in music were gospel. He was a huge fan of The Winans, Marvin Gaye, and Stevie Wonder and was enthralled with the new sounds of Bobby Brown and Keith Sweat. When you listen to Joe sing you definitely can hear those influences in his awesome voice.
Joe first came on to the music scene in 1993 when he was signed by Mercury Records. He had a track on the soundtrack to the Wayans Brothers comedy 'Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood' called 'All The Things' which got rave reviews. He would go on to release several top 15 albums over the 1990's and it was during this time that Joe got his tag of being the artist that was reminiscent of the freeloving 70's.
The 2000's saw Joe make acclaim as a producer most notably for his work with Mariah Carey and Kelly Price. These days though have seen total transformation in Joe. These days he goes by his full name of Joe Thomas. As a matter of fact, Joe released an album in 2008 titled 'Joe Thomas, New Man'. These days not only will you hear Joe and his silky voice but you can also witness him accompany himself on guitar like he has done in shows over the summer.
The great thing is that Joe is working on a new album that looks to be released sometime in the first part of 2010. Still, Joe is still playing shows all over the map and if you want to see him live, make sure to book your tickets well in advance of the show because it will most likely be sold out many weeks before it takes place.
