About John Mayer
John Mayer is a singer, song writer, guitarist from originally from Connecticut. He went to Berklee College of Music then moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he furthered his musician skills and developed a fan base. His first album was Room For Squares released through Aware Records as an internet only album, but soon after Colombia Records bought the record company. Columbia had the record remixed and re-released as a debut CD. The album produced three singles that hit the radio and gave Mayer a Grammy. Those songs included No Such Thing, Your Body is a Wonderland, and Why Georgia. It was Your Body is a Wonderland that gave Mayer the Grammy win.
Mayer’s second release Heavier Things was also a commercial success, however, it did not sell as many copies as his first album did. This album did bring Mayer’s first number one song in 2005 with the release of Daughters. Amazingly enough the song won him a 2005 Grammy Award, surprisingly beating out other contestants like Kanye West and Alicia Keys. Mayer didn’t think his song deserved the award so he gave the top of his award to Alicia Keys, because to him she had the better song, while he kept the bottom piece. It was his year at the Grammy’s that year because he also won another award beating out legends like Seal, Prince, and Elvis Costello.
In Mayer’s recent releases the singer has found his niche in blues music. Working with blues artists such as BB King, Budy Guy, and Eric Clapton, he went on to win another two Grammy Awards for his CD Continuum. Mayer will have his latest album out on November 17th, 2009. If Mayer stays true to himself, this should be another great work of art.
