In 1973, members of the group “Santana” decided to create their own band. Those members were Ross Valory, George Tickner, Greg Rollie and Neal Schon. A little later they were joined by Prairie Prince, drummer from “The Tubes”. After trying to find the right name for the band, roadie John Villanueva came up with the name “Journey”.
In 1977 after many trial and errors, Journey hired Robert Fleischman to be lead singer for the group. Not only were their mixed feelings within the group but fans were not receptive to Fleischman’s singing style, the band released Fleishman within the year and found Steve Perry whose clean tenor gave the band exactly what it needed to bring it to the height of the music generation.
In the 1980’s the band was topping the charts with hit after hit with songs like: “Don’t Stop Believing”, ” Anyway You Want It”, “Wheel In the Sky” and many more. Over and over, Journey’s albums became ever more popular and today continue to keep the band highly successful.
In 1998 the band ended up replacing lead singer Steve Perry with Steve Augeri who toured with the band for the remainder of the year and has since toured with the band through 2006 when an unfortunate throat infection had his Augeri to the point that he had to leave in the middle of the band’s tour during the year. The band then found singer Jeff Scott Soto who was with the band “Tailsman”. Soto finished the tour with the band.
Today singer Arnel Pineda, sings for the band. As of 2008, the band was touring through out Europe with their latest album Revelation which has gone Platinum and has been highly successful in reviving the band to the height of popularity once again.
