B.E.T also known as Black Entertainment Television was founded in 1980 by Robert L. Johnson. Based out of Washington D.C. they targeted audience was African American teenagers even though now the program has surpassed that tremendously with audiences ranging from teens, college students, to older adults. Now with the mainstream recognition B.E.T has become one of the top network programs. In 2001 B.E.T created the B.E.T Awards. This was formed to appreciate the African Americans in music, movies, sports, and other fields in the entertainment business. Not only do they recognize the black community but they also recognize all the minority communities as well. Every year B.E.T holds this event and the program is a live production.
