About Marc Anthony
Marc Anthony is the biggest-selling salsa singer of all time. This notorious salsero was born Marco Antonio Muñiz in Puerto Rico on September 16th, 1968. His name was a tribute from his parents to the Mexican romantic singer of the same name, but once Marc Anthony decided to become a singer himself they had to change the name just to avoid being confused professionally.
Marc Anthony started his career as a backing vocalist in albums for pop groups like the 80’s Puerto Rican sensation Menudo and also old school Hip-Hop enthusiast The Latin Rascals. In 1992, he changed his urban style thanks to Mexican singer and songwriter Juan Gabriel, whose number one hit at the time “Hasta que te conocí” motivated Marc Anthony to forget about singing urban music in English and change to the style that made him a big star: Salsa.
Marc was a sensation in Latin American countries like: Panamá, Cuba, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Argentina and Ecuador. However, Marc Anthony wanted to be as recognized in the United States, so in 1999 he recorded a pop album in English. “I need to know” was in the top 10 Billboard list for eleven weeks and gave him a Grammy nomination.
Some of his famous songs include: “Hasta que te conocí”, “Palabras del alma”, “Vivir lo nuestro”, “Se me sigue olvidando”, “Aguanilé”, “Y hubo alguien”, “Valió la pena” and featuring his wife Jennifer López “Ahora quien” and “Escapémonos”.
However, Marc Anthony is passionate about movies and he’s been in almost a dozen films that include titles like: “Big Night”, “The substitute”, “Bringing out the dead” with Nicolas Cage, “Man on fire” with Denzel Washington and his most recent “El Cantante” a tribute to the old king of salsa Hector Lavoe and also featuring his famous wife Jennifer Lopez whom he married in 2004.
Marc Anthony appeared for the first time in February 2009 in El Festival Internacional de la Canción en Viña del Mar in Chile. He was the most expensive singer to participate in this event. He took all the awards and the love from the people was obvious. Marc Anthony’s tour continues to captivate people with his passion and enthusiasm on stage. So if you have a chance to see him live in concert, don’t let that opportunity pass you by.
