No Doubt is an alternative band hailing from Anaheim, California. The group has been around for over twenty years, although they took a short break while pursuing their separate careers. The group began as No Doubt in 1989 and released their first self titled album in 1992. It wasn’t until their second release of Tragic Kingdom, that they really struck it big. Tragic Kingdom was written out of a lot of lead singer, Gwen Stefani’s, emotions after her boyfriend of seven years, and band member Tony Kanal broke up with her. No Doubt definitely helped kick start the ska influenced music of the 1990’s. Their first single ‘Just a Girl’ was a success as was their second ‘Spiderwebs’. Their really big record breaking single was the ballad ‘Don’t Speak’ written about the break up of Tony and Gwen. The single spent an amazing sixteen weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay. The band went on tour to promote this album that turned into a twenty seven month international tour.
After the success of Tragic Kingdom, the band released two more albums that didn’t quite live up to the success that Tragic Kingdom did. However, they did well enough to land the band two Grammy’s for their album Rock Steady. In 2003 the band took a hiatus. Gwen Stefani began working on her solo career while the other band members did their own creative things as well. Stefani’s album was a success and she followed it up with another album a few years later. No Doubt are currently working on their first album in years which will hopefully be out in 2010.
