More About Radiohead

When Radiohead came on the scene back in the early 1990's, their sound was one that had not been heard before. 1993 brought the release of their heralded debut album 'Pablo Honey' which also had their signature song 'Creep' on it that rose to #2 on the US Charts that year. Currently the band is recording a new album set to be released in early 2010 with an impending tour. Radiohead hail from Oxfordshire, England and was formed in 1985. They came together as classmates at Abingdon School. Thom Yorke, Colin Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, Phil Selway, and Johnny Greenwood are the still in the band and their alternative sound will always be one that is a definition of the music. Radiohead signed with EMI music in 1991. EMI made the band change its name from 'On a Friday', its original moniker. Thom Yorke's inspiration for the name 'Radiohead' came from the Talking Heads album, 'True Stories'. Since that debut album, Radiohead have gone on to record 7 albums and are now in the process of recording number 8. The same alternative sound that brought Radiohead to the forefront will definitely be on display on the new record. It has been written that Radiohead's influences ranged from Elvis Costello, The Pixies, Queen, The Beatles, and The Beach Boys. That is why Radiohead is so hard to define. With all of their influences they are able to mix a blend that can only be defined as simply 'Radiohead'. Radiohead can only be described as one of the best bands that came along in the 1990's and still today they are able to keep that same sound without conforming to the music industry. As a matter of fact they were known for that punk style rebellness from the early days. They made it clear that they weren't going to conform.
