Isaac Slade and Joe King were schoolmates who, together, formed the band The Fray in 2002. Their debut album was released just three years later in 2005. The band received practically instant fame and popularity when they released their (perhaps best known) song “How to Save a Life” which was in the top three of the Billboard Hot 100, and also a top 5 single in Canada, Australia, Ireland, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The band’s newer releases have also been quite popular, including “Over My Head (Cable Car)” and “You Found Me”. The album “How To Save A Life” was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and was also certified platinum in both New Zealand and Australia. The Fray performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2008 and on Good Morning America in 2009.
The Fray is an alternative rock group, and includes quite a bit of piano rock in their music. Their music is a style all of their own. Their singing style is somewhat similar to Switchfoot and Coldplay, yet is unique in its own way. Their style appeals to all music tastes.
Currently the band include:
Founders, Isaac Slade (vocals and piano), born in 1981. Joe King (vocals and guitar), born in 1980. Along with the founders the band also includes: Dave Welsh (guitar), born in 1984 and Ben Wysocki (drums and percussion), born in 1984.
Former members include:
Dan Battenhouse (bass guitar, background vocals), who was in the band from 2002-2004. Zach Johnson (drums, percussion), who was in the band from 2002-2003. Caleb Slade (bass guitar, background vocals) played with the band in 2002. Dave Hedin (bass guitar) was in the band in 2005. And Mike Ayars (lead guitar), who was in the band from 2002-2003.
