The Cincinnati Reds have a started a community fund called Reds Community Fund. The Reds Community Fund was set up to help kids throughout the Greater Cincinnati area. The Reds Community Fund is always looking for the kids and neighborhoods that need their support.
The Red Community Fund was founded in 2001 and has used baseball to help influence the lives of the kids. The Red Community Fund is nonprofit and is the first MLB team to start this by reaching out to kids in the area that are in need of the help. With this program the kids help out with fundraising programs to help them connect with the area in a better way. In 2009 some scheduled events are the Redlegs Run for Home 5K, Marty Brennaman Golf Classic and the Father’s Day Catch just to name a few. The Reds Community Fund is helping change the young lives in the Greater Cincinnati area through baseball with the help of Great American Ballpark tickets as well as other items.
The greatest Cincinnati Reds baseball game was the 1975 World Series game against the Boston Red Sox. The game lasted 12 innings and was a great battle to the end with the Reds winning 4-3. Ken Griffey worked a walk off pitcher Jim Burton and went to second when Rico Petrocelli fell while going for the next hit ball for the first out of the inning. Burton then retired the next batter which was a pinch hitter on a ground ball to second, which sent Ken Griffey to third base. Burton then walked Pete Rose and gave up a single hit to Joe Morgan which in turn brought Griffey home.
