In 1965, however, the name was changed from Los Angeles Angels to California Angels. They were the second team in baseball that had derived its name into representing a whole state, preceded only by the Minnesota Twins.
In 1996 the Disney Company took over the Angels and even though they played a quiet roll, they did technically run the team. The Disney Company at that time was very influential in the Orange County area having had opened up Disneyland in 1955 and in 1994 produced the baseball movie Angels in the Outfield which was based on the California Angels. In November of 1996, the California Angels changed the name, to much argument by the fans, to Anaheim Angels. The Angels finally reached a milestone in 1999 when, under the direction of general manager Bill Stoneman, they finally won their first World Series. The final name change of the Angels came in January of 2005 when they became known as The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
