About New York Mets
The 1962 Mets were named the worse team in history, however Richie Ashburn from the 1962 team was later welcomed into the Baseball Hall of Fame. They were managed unsuccessfully for four years by Casey Stengel. For the first two years, games were played at Polo Field in Manhattan before moving to Shea Stadium in 1964. Naming the Shea Stadium was difficult, but after much dispute, it was decided the stadium would be named after William Shea, otherwise known as ‘the man who brought baseball back to New York.”
The first game played at Shea Stadium was against the Pirates, the Mets suffered a 4-3 loss. The Mets secured two World Series titles in 1969 and 1986.The New York Mets have also played in more World Series than any other team in baseball history. Another interesting fact is that no Met pitcher has ever thrown a “no hitter.” Two wild card titles were also achieved, one in 1999, and the second the following year. Darryl Strawberry was named the best overall player in Mets history, while Kevin Elster was named the worst. Other famous Mets players include, Tom Seaver, Keith Hernandez, Dwight Gooden, and Gary Carter. In 2009, the Mets moved from Shea Stadium, relocating across the street to the newly constructed Citi Field. New York Mets tickets are a must have for every baseball fan.
