With the 2009 MLB season drawing to a close, the reigning World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies appear to be well on their way to the post season again this season. If the Phillies can manage to repeat as the World Series champs this season, they will be the first team this decade, and the first since the Yankees '98, '99, and 2000, to repeat as champions. About Philadelphia Phillies

A repeat as champions would also make the Phillies the second team this decade to win the World Series more than once, the Boston Red Sox being the other with wins in 2004 and 2007.

The Philadelphia Phillies are one of baseball’s oldest franchises, having been established in 1883. In their inaugural season the team was named the Philadelphia Quakers, but adopted Phillies as the team name in 1884. The two nicknames were used interchangeably until 1889. Despite a history that spans 126 years, the Phillies have won the World Series only twice in their history. The Phillies have played in a number of stadiums during their history, but in 2004 the team moved from their long time home of Veterans Stadium into their brand new, state of the art stadium at Citizens Bank Park.

Philadelphia Phillies fans remain among the fiercest in all of baseball. Much like the cities’ other teams, the Phillies always have extremely loyal fans. Fan loyalty has only grown stronger this decade as the team has experienced a revival. Young players like Cole Hamels, Ryan Howard, and Shane Victorino have teamed up with veterans like Jimmy Rollins to lead Philadelphia back to the top.

Due to a high level of fan support, tickets to Phillies games are not easy to come by. With only a handful of series remaining at Citizens Bank Park this year, tickets will be even harder to come by. The Phillies have games remaining at Citizens Bank Park against Atlanta, San Francisco, Washington, Houston, and the New York Mets.
