Until 2009, the Shelby 427 was only 400 miles and was formerly known as the UAW-Dodge 400 (2008), the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 (2001-2007), the CarsDirect.com 400 and the original name of the Las Vegas 400(1998-1999). With past big name winners such as Carl Edwards in 2008 and Jimmie Johnson in 2007, this race has been a 7 year Ford and Chevy battle until this year when Kyle Busch took the win in his Toyota giving the well known car company its first win at the Shelby 427 since its first race.
Seated in the middle of the Nevada desert and located in Sin City itself this NASCAR race venue has conveniently located hotels and food restaurants to suit any style. As with any NASCAR race fans come from all over to watch the action. A little known fact about the Shelby 427 is where the name comes from and why the race was extended to 427.5 miles from the original 400 miles. Well, here’s why. After receiving a sponsorship from Carroll Shelby International for 2009, Las Vegas Motor Speedway saw it only fitting to take the name of one of the Shelby’s automobiles, the 427 Cobra and extend the race in its honor. Now talk about love for a car. Now that you have all the information about the race and a place to get your Shelby 427 tickets, remember to continue following your favorite NASCAR drivers through the season and who knows, your driver could be the next one holding that Championship Belt.
