This race has had many names. It began as the CMT 300 in 1997. In 1998, it was called Farm Aid on CMT 300, and in 1999 the Dura Lube/Kmart 300. It was the New Hampshire 300 in 2001 and 2002. Since 2003, it has been sponsored by Sylvania and known as the Sylvania 300. Sylvania has signed an agreement to be title sponsor until 2012.
Traditionally held in mid-September, it has only been rescheduled once in its history – after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. That year, it was held in November.
New Hampshire Motor Speedway, a 1.058-mile oval track, is the largest sports venue of any kind in the New England region, and is host to a number of NASCAR events since its opening in June 1990.
Past winners of the Sylvania 300 have included Greg Biffle, Clint Bowyer, Kevin Harvick, and Ryan Newman. Newman was also the 2002 winner of the New Hampshire 300. Chevrolet leads the pack for manufacturer wins, with seven of twelve. Ford is in second place with four wins.
The Sylvania 300 has served as the opening round of the “Chase for the Sprint Cup” since 2004. This ten-race competition, involving the top drivers in the standings, is designed to spur interest in NASCAR events during the start of the NFL and college football seasons, and the end of the MLB season. For stock car racing fans, this is one of NASCAR’s premier events, one that attracts fans from up and down the Atlantic seaboard. Sylvania 300 tickets can be purchased at our website.
