About Kansas City Chiefs

Despite not repeating their early Super Bowl success, the Chiefs have been strong contenders, reaching the playoffs nearly every year under coach Marty Schottenheimer in the late 80s and 90s. Featuring such famous players as Len Dawson, Derrick Thomas, Neil Smith, Joe Montana, and Marcus Allen over the years, to name just a few, the Chiefs have long enjoyed a loyal fan base. Despite having one of the smaller media markets in the NFL, they’ve had the second-highest attendance average for the past decade.

The Chiefs’ original mascot was Warpaint, a pinto horse who circled the stadium before each game and after each touchdown. Warpaint was replaced in 1983 by K. C. Wolf, a cartoon-like mascot with a wolf costume. Named after a fervent group of fans called the Wolf Pack, K. C. Wolf is a very popular mascot in the NFL, and in 2006, he was the first league mascot voted into the Mascot’s Hall of Fame

The fans have several long-standing traditions, such as changing end of the National Anthem to say “the Chiefs” instead of “the brave.” They chanted to Rock and Roll Part 2 (known as “The Hey Song”) until the NFL banned use of that song, and they sometimes invoke the Tomahawk Chop started by the Florida Seminoles and the War Chant.

Kansas City Chiefs games at Arrowhead Stadium are some of the most fun in the league. The fans are known for their enthusiastic cheering, possibly second only to the fantastic tailgating. Kansas City Chiefs tickets usually sell out, even in less than stellar seasons, but if you’re lucky enough to get Arrowhead Stadium tickets, you’ll most definitely want to get there early enough to enjoy the sights and sounds of the tailgate parties. Some people will even come to the parking lot if they don’t have tickets, just to be part of the tailgating, and then go home for the actual game.
