The name of this race has changed constantly throughout it's history, only one year after it was given its original name, it was changed to the Miller 400. In 1986, the name was changed again to the All Pro 300. In 1995, it became the All Pro Bumper to Bumper 300, but it changed once again to the Little Trees 300 in 2001. In 2004, the race got in touch with its humorous side by taking the name Lowe's Presents The Spongebob SquarePants Movie 300 for one year. When the popular store Dollar General took over sponsorship, the race then became the Dollar General 300, which has been its name ever since.
A Nationwide series stock car race by any other name is just as exciting, and the name changes only confirm that this is a race where things get shaken up. Even the venue name has changed; the Lowe's Motor Speedway was the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the first 38 years of its existence. This oval track is known for long stretches of racing without red or yellow flags, leaving drivers to show off their racing skills without any hindrance. In fact, the 1985 race was the longest race in this series' history at 400.5 miles. This race is constantly changing, only adding to the excitement. The only driver to win the Dollar General 300 race twice was Mark Martin in 1995 and 1996.
