Since 2003 the race has been sponsored by the Meijer supermarket chain with a co sponsorship by Ritz Crackers. Prior to 2008 the series was also known as the NASCAR Busch series but has since changed sponsorship to Nationwide Insurance. The race is run in June at the Kentucky Speedway in Sparta. The Meijer 300 is a three hundred mile race that is completed in two hundred laps. Since its inception the race has produced first time winners three years in a row; in 2006 it was David Gilliland, for 2007 it was Stephen Leicht and in 2008 Joey Logano was the big winner (Joey Logan also was the winner of the 2009 race). NASCAR fans are excited about this new addition to the nationwide series. Not only is Sparta Kentucky a beautiful place to visit, but the track is great and the race has always been fabulous. The Nationwide series is a stock car racing series considered to be equivalent to baseballs minor league. The Kentucky Speedway was designed to host the Sprint Cup Series and is currently one of the top tracks in the nation to test Sprint Cup cars.
