More About NASCAR Sprint All-Star Challenge

Held at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC, the Sprint Cup All-Star Challenge is an all-star race made up of two-seasons worth of race winners, past Challenge and Cup champions, a fan-voted selection, and the winner and second-place finisher from the Sprint Showdown, held prior to the Challenge. Approximately 20 of the best drivers NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series race for a $1,000,000 prize on a night where anything can - and will - happen. The Challenge is broken into four segments - 1) 50 laps with a mandatory pit stop, followed by a caution flag for an optional pit stop; 2) 20 laps followed by a caution for an optional pit-stop; 3) another 20 laps followed by a 10 minute break for adjustments; and 4) a 10-lap shootout for all the money and glory. The Sprint Cup All-Star Challenge, formerly known as The Winston under previous sponsorship, is one race the fans and drivers wait for each year. The drivers and teams often unveil special paint schemes specifically for the night races at Charlotte, and the scheme for the Challenge may be different from the following week's paint scheme for the Coca Cola 600. The Challenge has seen some awesome finishes over the years, from Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s "pass in the grass" on Bill Elliott, to Kyle Petty and Davey Allison ending the race on their roofs, to Tony Stewart winning for the first time as a team owner in the 2009 edition of the race.
