The Eagles were established in 1933 and experienced success early in the history of the franchise. The Eagles are three time NFL champions, winning titles in 1948, 1949, and 1960. Philadelphia has yet to win a Super Bowl despite making two appearances, in 1980 and 2004. Since the AFL-NFL merger, the Philadelphia Eagles have been members of the NFC East division, one of the leagues toughest.
As of 2003, the Eagles play their home football games at Lincoln Financial Field. The Linc, as it is called, replaced the Eagles' longtime home at Veterans Stadium. Philadelphia fans are among the fiercest supporters of their team. Tickets to Eagles games are rarely easy to come by as most games are sellouts. Philadelphia has made headlines recently with their decision to sign former quarterback, and convicted felon, Michael Vick to a two year deal. Vick, released in June after spending 20 months in prison on dog fighting charges, was drafted out of Virginia Tech by the Atlanta Falcons. After several successful seasons there, Vick was convicted in 2007 on federal charges and spent 20 months in prison. Vick is a much maligned character and even rabid Eagle fans were disheartened by their team's decision to sign Michael Vick. The move is a big gamble on Philadelphia's part, mostly from a public relations standpoint. Only time will tell if it was worthwhile.
The Eagles feel as though they have all the right pieces in place to make a serious run at the Super Bowl in the 2009 season. Led by QB Donovan McNabb, the Eagles are coming off a strong season in 2008, and seem to have all the pieces in place to be successful in 2009 as well. The Eagles have eight home games at Lincoln Financial Field this coming season. Starting with week two, the Eagles will play New Orleans, Kansas City, Tampa Bay, New York (NFC), Dallas, Washington, San Francisco, and Denver at home.
