The Phoenix Coyotes started out as the Winnipeg Jets in 1972 and continued till 1979 but at that time they were in the World Hockey Association. In 1979 the Winnipeg Jets were forced due to money problems with players demanding more money and not enough ticket sales in their smaller playing area to move to Glendale Arizona which is just outside Phoenix and then become the Phoenix Coyotes.
