More About Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks name was chosen through a contest with more than 20,000 entries and over 1700 names to choose from. The Seahawk is another name for an osprey and is a fitting name for the Seattle and Puget Sound area. Fortunately, with the popularity of the team in the Northwest, it seems very unlikely they would be moved from the area. Because of this popularity, Seattle Seahawks tickets can be tough to get if you want to go to a game at the last minute, but our site always makes it easy to find the seats that you're looking for.
The Seahawks played in the Kingdome from 1976 until 1999. It was then torn down to build Seahawks Stadium, later renamed Qwest Field. During the construction, the team played at the University of Washington's Husky Stadium. There was some controversy over demolition of the Kingdome from many dedicated fans that did not want to lose the history of the stadium. Most of those fans, however, have come to love the new stadium just as much.
Most football teams generally have a fan base that supports them, but very few teams have a fan base quite like the Seattle Seahawks. When the Seahawks were playing in the Kingdome, it was known as one of the loudest stadiums in the National Football League. The fans are referred to as the 12th man and Seattle retired the #12 jersey in 1984 to honor these fans. A 12th man flag is also raised at the beginning of each game. When Qwest field was built, the stadium was designed to enhance the crowd noise, making it again, one of the loudest in the league. The noise level in the stadium truly benefits the team, often leading to false starts and fumbles by the opponents. The stadium was also built with beautiful views of downtown Seattle and Mount Rainier, making it even more enjoyable to attend the games.
