It follows three days in the life of Usnavi, a hard-working young man who dreams of one day returning to the Dominican Republic. In the meantime, he's got stories to share about the people who make up his vibrant, dynamic neighborhood. Among them are the elderly Cuban lady Usnavi befriends, the beautiful but distant woman who works at a salon, and his childhood friend Nina. The characters meet, mingle, and engage the audience with a sentimental story sure to tug at the heartstrings.
With brilliant, imaginative choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and high-energy, original music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, In the Heights shows are feasts for the eyes and ears. Miranda's music is solidly infused with Latin style and Blankenbuehler's choreography ably reflects this. A cast of fabulously talented artists makes an In the Heights Broadway performance an unforgettable evening in the theater. Audience members will sympathize with the characters, identify with them, and find it difficult to resist jumping up on the stage to sing and dance with them.
