About The Lion King
The story is one we are familiar with: Young Simba, banished from the lion’s lands by his evil Uncle Scar after the death of Mufasa – his father and the former king – must find it in himself to reclaim his destiny, as well as the heart of his would-be queen, Nala. In The Lion King on Broadway, you find it easy to see this story outside of the wilderness.
Familiar songs include “Hakuna Matata” and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight?” Those holdover compositions by Elton John and Tim Rice join new music in styles that vary wildly from hip-hop to disco to mesmerizing African chant. The choreography is equally eclectic, from ballet to samba.
Characters include the Young Simba who “Just Can’t Wait to be King”, his father (the king) Mufasa, Simba’s young love Nala and of course Timon and Puumba. With their patter that’s good for laughs includes Puumba’s gas problems.
