More Bristol Motor Speedway Information
The Bristol Motor Speedway is located in the quiet mountain town of Bristol, TN. The track is nestled in a scenic valley, surrounded by the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains. Known as the “World’s Fastest Half Mile”, the concrete track is one of the NASCAR’s Series most popular. It held it’s first NASCAR race in 1961. The Speedway hosts several different racing events annually, including NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Nationwide, Camping World Truck Series, Whelen Modified Series and the ASA Series. And just for fun, DukesFest, a two-day festival showcasing celebrating the 1980s television show “Dukes of Hazzard” is also held here.
This half-mile track qualifying record was sent in 2003, with a lightning speed of 128.709, with Ryan Newman completing a lap in just 14.908 seconds. Banking in the corners varies from 24-30 degrees, and the straightaway is 650 feet. The modern day coliseum like track is always one of the loudest and most exciting on the NASCAR schedule.
Even with a seating capacity of 160,000 this venue continually sells out. Two Sprint and Nationwide Series are held each year, in March and in August. The sightlines are unparalleled, as all seats enjoy spectacular views of the entire track. Parking can be a challenge, but there are plenty of shuttles and transportation options. Rooms book up very early in Bristol, but additional lodging can be found in nearby Johnson City and Kingsport Tennessee, as well as Abindgon, North and Blowing Rock North Carolina. Several local companies offer private lodging options, and camping is a popular choice for both the spring and summer races.
