More Cleveland Indians Info

In 1889 one of their players was the great Cy Young. While playing for Cleveland, he pitched his 500th win. In 1901, the American League of Baseball was formed and the Cleveland team was known as the Blues. In 1902 they became known as the Cleveland Broncos, during which time they played progressively better baseball. In 1905 they became known as the Cleveland Naps in honor of a player on their team, Nap Lajoie. In 1908 they lost the closest title race in baseball history by half a game because a rainout game was never made up and was counted as a loss. There is a rule in place now that all rainout games must be made up. In 1914 Nap Lajoie became the first player to have 3,000 hits. In 1915, the Cleveland team changed their name to the Cleveland Indians, in honor of Louis Sockalexis, a Penobscot Indian who played on the team in 1897. They have been known as the Cleveland Indians since that time. In 1932, the Indians played their first game in Cleveland Municipal Stadium. Prior to this time, they had been playing at League Park. They played home games between parks up until 1947, when they played only at Municipal Stadium. Jacob's Field opened in 1994. In 2008, Jacob's Field became known as Progressive Field. It is easy to obtain Cleveland Indians tickets. They can be obtained by phone or on internet sites, including our site. Advanced and same day (unless it's a sellout) Progressive Field tickets can also be purchased at the stadium. Watching Cleveland Indians games at Progressive Field can be a fun experience for the whole family. In addition to watching the game, there is a very wide variety of foods to choose from and a playground area for kids. Have a great time!
