More St. Louis Cardinals Info

In 1889, the ball club changed their club name to the Perfectos. This was followed by another name change in 1900 to become the St. Louis Cardinals that we know and love today. In 1892, the team made the official move out of the American Association, joining the National League, where we still find them today. Winning their first pennant in the National League in 1926, the team then went on to secure a World Series victory in a complete seven game series, despite being considered the underdogs. The team logged their 10,000th win to date for the franchise on August 22, 2009. This ranks the Cardinals as only the fourth team in the MLB to reach this milestone. It places them in the company of several highly skilled teams, including their biggest rival out of Chicago. As the oldest professional sports organization in their region of the country, the Cardinals have an impressive franchise record. The team holds a National League record with their credited 10 World Series championships. The only team to hold more World Series wins is the New York Yankees who have 26 wins to their credit. To secure their place as a highly talented sports organization, the St. Louis Cardinals hold 17 National League pennants and many division championships to support their World Series wins. Busch Stadium is home to the St. Louis Cardinals. In downtown St. Louis, this stadium opened in 2006. The Cardinals broke in their new home well, winning the World Series in that season, and making history as only the second team to win a World Series in the first year of a new ballpark. The last team to complete the same feat did so in 1923. Managed by Tony LaRussa, the Cardinals will be a team to contend with for many years to come.
